Layout Anatomy - Session 4

This photo brings back such happy thoughts from our recent vacation. We drove about 3 miles down this dirt road, looking for a geocache, only to find out it was a dead end. When we turned around to drive back out, there were literally thousands of small yellow butterflies along side of the road. They were not there on our drive in. The girls got out and had fun chasing them and trying to catch them (with no luck).

Photo Notes: A subtle vignette goes a long way in adding depth and focus to a photo.

Here is my photo, using the exact same edits, except the one on the right has a vignette added (in Lightroom). The vignette deepens the color tones in the photo and also helps draw your eye to the subject.

Layout Notes: Use clustering wisely on layouts to create a sense of balance.

A layout is a bit like a teeter totter. If you place too much on one side or part of the layout, it can feel a bit out of balance. On this layout, the cluster in the upper right corner nicely balances the title and photo cluster in the lower left corner.

  3. Is there a way to create a similar effect on a photo in PSE?

  4. Sure Shannon! There are lots of ways. One easy way is to duplicate your photo layer and use your burn tool on the edges of the photo. Be sure to play with the 'range' and 'Exposure' settings to get the desired look. Pioneer Woman also has a 'Quick Edge Burn' action included in her free action sets. You can find the PSE versions here: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/download-files-for-pioneer-woman-actions-elements-version/

  7. This is just so warm, in essence, as they chase those tempting and ellusive butterflies. The color was and textures definitely draws the eye to the central point of your lo. (Christie. Thank you for the link for PSE.) HUGS!!

  9. I also receive a 404 error. I tried them all with the same result. There was nowhere to leave remarks on her site. I was a member of her site in 06 or 07 before I went into the hospital. So I appreciate the link to her site.

  10. Hey Shannon...I just saw yesterday that Pioneer Woman was doing some sort of site upgrade. Maybe the links were broken during the change? (They are all giving an error) Anyway...I would shoot her an email and let her know. I'm sure she will want to fix it! :)
